Mandocello

Our Short Scale Model

Our short scale model is a smaller version of our Standard five-course model. The string length is an inch shorter (making it 23.5") and easier to play in half and first position. The smaller size of the body and the shorter string length, lend themselves to ease of play. It is a great instrument for lead lines, melodic playing, and those of us with smaller hands.

In some respects, this instrument is a five course octave mandolin. We usually tune it in fifths, F-Bb-Eb-Ab-Db rather than G-D-A-E-B to take a little more advantage of its bass possibilities. (It can be tuned to G however if the player prefers that tuning.) The DCI-V quick, break-angle adjustment allows this instrument to easily play in variety of folk tunings and styles while maintaining comfortable action.

This instrument features all the attractive aspects of our Standard model including choice of sound woods or the inclusion of a double-top, DCI-V quick, break-angle adjustment, SP design and our shop-built pick-up. As always, we are happy to do custom work to your specifications.
